Painting Tuition by Stephen Martyn. Workshops, Courses, Painting Holidays. A few hours, a day or a week. Tuition available to suit you. It's always a pleasure to meet new people and introduce them to the joys of painting, and of course, it's also great to renew old aquaintances. Whether you are a complete beginner or a more experienced artist I’m sure that I will have something to offer you among my events. Or, you can arrange tuition with me on either a one-to-one basis or a small group at a time to suit yourself. See below. Tailor made workshops for individuals or groups. Tuition on demand Isn't it always the case that the painting course that you want to go on clashes with something else in your diary? How much better if it could take place when you wanted, and teach you what you wanted! In 2013 I intend to try and make that possible, by arranging tuition to suit either an individual or a group on a date and at a time to suit them. I will price my time by the hour or the day and the more people who join a particular event, the cheaper per head it will be. If you would like to join a group event but don't have any painting friends that you can bring with you, don't worry. Just contact me with your requirements and I will try and put you together with other likeminded artists at date and time to suit everyone. I will keep my fees as reasonable as possible, so that individuals or very small groups can afford to book me. Larger groups will find that I can offer a day workshop, or longer, at a very modest cost per person. This will be ideal for art societies or similar groups. There is more information here, including prices, or contact me to discuss your requirements. I look forward to painting together with you! Weekend and day workshopsThroughout the year I lead a variety of workshops suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists. Workshop are usually over a weekend, and topics include watercolour painting, painting in oils, pen and wash, and sketching and drawing. Some of these workshops I organise myself, and others I run for commercial art centres. New for 2013 was a day workshop at Windrush House, near Burford, Oxfordshire on Friday 15th March. Windrush House was the home of the late James Fletcher-Watson, one of the great masters of 20th Century watercolour, but my workshop concentrated on the work of another great watercolourist - Rowland Hilder. The Hilderscapes workshop seemed popular, so in 2014 I will be running a two-day workshop at Windrush House, this time focussing on outdoor sketching in pen and wash. An excellent location with plenty of good views to inspire any artist. The Events page has more information. In 2013 I am again tutoring two workshops at West Norfolk Arts Centre at Castle Rising, near King's Lynn. One weekend will be a watercolour workshop focusing on the style and techniques of Edward Seago and the other will be devoted to ink in all its forms. You can find dates and details here. I have run my own courses and workshops for a number of years, based in local village halls. I will continue to run these in 2013, but they will mainly be "on demand" rather than arranged in advance for a set date. See the Tuition on Demand information above, which tells you how you or your group can arrange a workshop or course with me, or join one arranged by someone else. However, there will be an outdoor sketching weekend in my programme on the weekend of 7th - 8th September, so do put that in your diary if you are interested, and contact me to reserve a place. The venue is likely to be the picturesque town of Wells-next-the-sea, where the harbour and old town will provide a wealth of sketching subjects. Although the intention will be to work outside as much as possible, I am currently searching out a hall to use as a base, just in case the British weather should be unkind!
Weekly courses After many years of weekly tuition at West Norfolk Arts Centre, Castle Rising, I have retired from running those courses and they will be taken over in the autumn by tutor Ian King. For those who would still like to spend a couple of hours with me painting in watercolour I have a group which meets in my studio on occasional Tuesday afternoons. For dates and information see my Events page.
Painting holidays I have tutored a variety of painting holidays in the past, and there are several venues in France and Spain that I can use. If you have a group of at least four people, then I can arrange a venue and provide a comprehensive tuition programme tailored to your group's specific needs. Holidays are usually all inclusive with the exception of travel from the UK to an airport or railway station near the venue. Please contact me to discuss your requirements, completely without obligation. If you would like to include some walking along with outdoor sketching, then there is one venue that is particularly suitable, which is Casa Ana, Ferreirola, in the Spanish Alpujarras, near Granada. A wonderful location in one of the most inspiring landscapes Spain has to offer. You can find more information here. |
