2010 Watercolour Painting Courses with Stephen Martyn. Summer Workshop - Fill Your Sketchbook! Pen and wash around Castle Rising Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th May. SORRY, FULLY BOOKED Summer Workshop - One Day of Watercolour Thursday 17th June. A one day course primarily designed for those on my regular weekly courses as a "top-up" during the summer months. However, the course is perfectly suitable for any watercolour artist wishing to refresh their skills, or just spend a day painting and sketching. Weather permitting, there will be both studio and outdoor working. I will be demonstrating and giving one-to-one advice throughout the day. Lunch is NOT provided on this course, in order to keep the cost to the minimum, but coffee, tea and other refreshments will be freely available. Participants should bring their normal watercolour materials, plus a lightweight portable stool or chair for outdoor sketching. Summer Workshop - Hilderscapes. The landscape of Rowland Hilder Saturday 31st July and Sunday 1st August. The watercolour painter Rowland Hilder was one of the best loved landscape artists of the 20th Century. His paintings so effectively captured the unique essence of the British countryside that the scenes themselves ofter became referred to as Hilderscapes. Hilder's techniques were simple but effective, and I will show you how they can be applied to your own paintings, to give them a new dimension of light and atmosphere.
This course will be great fun, and is suitable for artists of all abilities who love the British landscape.
Weekly Watercolour Classes in Autumn 2010 Commencing Monday 4th October 2010 for nine weeks. 2pm - 4pm.
Commencing Thursday 7th October 2010 for nine weeks. Improve your watercolours on this nine week course aimed at those who have some modest knowledge of watercolour techniques. A variety of landscape based subjects will be on offer, and Stephen Martyn will demonstrate each painting step by step. Covering all aspects of watercolour painting, we will study a number of different ways of tackling a wide variety of scenes, so that you will build up a library of techniques that will be there whenever you need them. Subjects will be drawn from around the British Isles, including of course the familiar Norfolk coast, plus the occasional scene from Steve's travels abroad. All courses at West Norfolk Art Centre include free tea, coffee etc. throughout the session. Two day courses include a buffet lunch with wine or soft drinks. The weekend course is sponsored by Daler Rowney, who will provide a kit of art materials that will enable you to follow in the footsteps of this great master. Included will be the palette of colours used by Rowland Hilder, in artist's quality watercolours, plus brushes, paper etc. Hilder often drew in ink, so a traditional bottle of Indian Ink will be in the kit.
